| Methotrexate |  The procedure with methotrexate is similar to the RU 486 technique, though it is performed by an intramuscular injection instead of pill and acts in different ways. Methotrexate, attack the growing cells of the baby and the tissue surrounding the embryo that eventually gives rise to the placenta, which is called the trophoblast. It functions as life support system for the developing child, and produces the human chorionic gonadotroping hormone which signals the organism to continue the production of progesterone needful to prevent damage of uterine lining and loss of the pregnancy.
Methotrexate initiates the destruction of the nourishing environment, causing the death of the baby. Three to seven days later a suppository of misoprostol is inserted into a woman’s vagina to cause uterine contractions and to expel a tiny body of the baby. The actual end of the abortion may occur in period from the next few hours till several weeks. A woman may bleed for weeks, feel severe pain and may abort anywhere, at work, at home, even in the street. Those found to be still pregnant in later visits to the doctor are conducted with a surgical abortion.
Many doctors even those who support abortion, do not prescribe methotrexate for abortion because its high toxicity and severe side effects, such as pain, nausea, diarrhea, liver damage and lung disease.
Other techniques are used to perform abortion in the third trimester. Prostaglandin can be used for premature delivery. This technique can be combined with injection the amniotic fluid with caustic solution containing saline or urea.
Until the 7th week of the pregnancy, a woman can be given a combination of two drugs to abort the fetus.
Caution: The cases of death have been reported with the use of methotrexate!!! Don’t even think to do it by yourself.
