Some scientists inclined to believe that a causal relationship between induced abortion and an increased risk of developing breast cancer exists. Such abortion-breast cancer is also known as ABC link. In the first stages of pregnancy the level of estrogen increases, in such a way breast begins its growth, preparing to lactation. The procedure of abortion interrupts this process, so that more relatively vulnerable undifferentiated cells leave into the body in a higher level than there were prior to the pregnancy. Such process carries a great potential risk of breast cancer. However, this hypothesis has not been proved and abortion is not considered an actual breast cancer risk by any major cancer clinics.
For present moment different opinions and thoughts exist around this problem. For example, pro-lifers affirm that an ABC link really is. They suppose that a risk of breast cancer increases after abortion. Pro-life followers take to their consideration unreliable studies. As for the pro-choice advocates, they assert that foundation for such thoughts is unproven. They do not believe in this connection, relying on more reliable studies. Anti-cancer groups think that there are no any proofs of abortion-breast cancer existence. The best studies report no link, especially in early-term abortions. They assume this link, just little possibility, in late-term abortions. In spite of this, a much larger world study confirmed that ABC link does not exist.
There are Some Generally Recognized Risk Factors for Breast Cancer: -First of all it depends on age (the most appropriate age for such danger is over 50 years). -Secondly it depends on sex (men suffer from breast cancer very rare). -Smoking increases chances of breast cancer up to 70%. -Drug and alcohol addiction. -Past cancer, except of non-melanoma skin cancer. -More than normal weight of body. -A diet that consists of little number of grains, fruits and vegetable. -Use of contraceptive pills before the age of 20. -Constant use of contraceptive pills for more than 10 years. -Cases of breast cancer in the first degree of your family. -Beginning of menstruation before 12 years. -Start of menopause after 55 years. -Past abortions.
In spite of contradictory thoughts about ABC link there is one more truthful than others, but it is rarely discussed. Physicians have proved that women who have never been pregnant have the risk of developing breast cancer in two times more that those who have given birth to at least one child. The process of pregnancy gives women some sort of immunity to breast cancer in further life.
It has been suggested by some physicians that breast cells reach their full maturity only after a completed pregnancy. This process is called differentiation. At the end of it the cells are less unprotected from cancer-causing changes.
Some pro-life and pro-choice followers have their own opposing explanations about this fact. Pro-lifers consider that young pregnant woman who has decided to continue her pregnancy and give birth has lower chance of breast cancer than in case if she would elect an abortion. As a result of an abortion she loses much protection against the breast cancer. In early term abortion the risk of developing breast cancer is lower.
In their turn pro-choicers consider that only birth of baby can provide such protection. If a woman had not become pregnant, her chance of breast cancer is unchanged. That is why they think that abortion does not increase the chance of breast cancer; it remains on such level as if woman was not pregnant.
