What you can expect after the abortion procedure: 
Cramping
Cramping is a normal and healthy sign that everything is going well and your uterus is contracting back to its pre-pregnant size.

Bleeding
The natural amount of bleeding following an abortion differs for each woman. Most women discover they have a combination of spotting or bleeding which may be permanent or on and off for up to three weeks. Sometimes aborted teen girl can have no bleeding until several days following the abortion. Sometimes it is succeeded to stop bleeding after the first day, or to have period like bleeding for up to three weeks.

Breast Tenderness
It's normal for breasts to feel tender or sore after the abortion and may remain tender for about two weeks. Breast milk or discharge is more likely to happen if you were more than 12 weeks from your last menstrual period.

General Guidelines:
- You should not have sexual intercourse within next two weeks.
- Use sanitary napkins only, no tampons for further two weeks.
- You may take a shower and wash your hair, but no bath for 2 weeks.
- Do not swim during next two weeks.
- Avoid exhausting exercise and activities or heavy lifting.
- Measure your temperature every day.
- Take all of the medications given to you according to the directions on the label.

Useful Things to Know:
- You can take Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Advil or Motrin to ease any pain. Hot water bottles or heating pads may also relieve cramping. Do not take asprin in any way.
- Massaging your abdomen may also help relieve cramps and pass any blood clots that may be causing discomfort. Push down starting from below your belly button towards your pubic hair.
- You may relieve any breast tenderness by wearing a tight fitting bra. If release does occur, do not stimulate your breasts or try to press the fluids out. Putting a bag of ice on your breasts for several minutes every few hours may also help relieve any pain.
- All of your pregnancy signs and symptoms (except breast tenderness) should reduce within 48-72 hours.
- It is possible to get pregnant right after your abortion.
- Your next period should start 4 to 8 weeks after your abortion (if not on birth control). If you do not get your period after eight weeks, call your doctor.

Be Cautious
- If your temperature is over 100.4 degrees, you need to call a doctor 9-1-1 immediately.
- If the amount of bleeding increases to soaking more than one maxi-pad in one hour if you begin to pass large blood clots call 9-1-1 immediately.
